Marina V
Marina V and Alex Kharlamov met through the internet at the end of 1990's, when he searched for Russian-born music artists in Los Angeles area. Alex became a fan of Marina's artistry and singing, and when the time came for him to record new material in 2003, he asked her to sing the chorus of "200 Cats."
AK: "After recording about 15 takes of Marina's try-out vocals, so that she could get used to her part, something has happened during another take, radically changing the sound and feel of the whole part of the song. I wasn't sure what went different; I looked into the computer screen while Marina sang, thinking to myself, 'hmm, did I change anything?.. no... maybe the computer has added an effect or something... this sounds totally different and feels very good... what has changed?.. it's not the computer - I haven't heard such an effect before...' After recording the take, I asked Marina, whether she's noticed anything different that time. She said, 'Yes, I've stopped following you and started to sing the part on my own.' I realized then that that's why I have invited Marina to sing on our stuff: she's got this magic that is just there in what she's doing. I kept the complete take and it's there in '200 Cats' now."
AK and Marina V continue to be great friends, being open to future collaborations...
